4th of July Beans

Happy 4th of July everyone. I thought it would be fun to share a recipe that has followed me from state to state and BBQ to BBQ since my children were small (which seems like a very long time ago). I was given a few different versions of this by some older friends that I have always admired inside the kitchen and out. This is the version I ended up with and that friends are always asking me to make! Hope you enjoy.

Ingredients:

3/4 of a pound ground beef (grass fed if available)

1 cup chopped white onion

28 oz can pork and beans- rinsed and drained

14 oz can white beans- rinsed and drained

1/2 cup BBQ sauce (any kind works)

1/2 cup Ketchup

1/2 cup Brown Sugar

1/2 cup Sugar

2 Tablespoons Molasses

2 Tablespoons yellow Mustard

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon Chili Powder

(For those of you who love bacon, you can add 1/2 a pound of cooked bacon)

In a small saute pan cook the beef until browned and then add the chopped onion and continue cooking until onion is translucent.

Rinse and drain both cans of beans and put in large mixing bowl.

Add the cooked meat and onion mixture.

Add all other ingredients and mix very well.

Cook at 350 degrees for 45 minutes COVERED.

Cook an additional 15 minutes uncovered. Serve hot!

Enjoy!
